As the last day of 2024 unfolds, I can’t help but feel immense gratitude and pride reflecting on Wren AI’s journey this year. The momentum we’ve built — both as an open-source project and as a commercial service — has been nothing short of remarkable, and I’d like to share some highlights and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s been part of the story.

Open Sourcing Wren AI & Community Growth

Back in April, we took a significant leap by open-sourcing Wren AI. Since then, the community has rallied around the project in ways we never anticipated. Here are a few achievements we’re celebrating:

2,670+ GitHub Stars

We surpassed a major milestone on GitHub, standing proud among top Text-to-SQL libraries.

30+ Contributors

We welcomed more than 30 developers, data enthusiasts, and AI experts who have contributed code, documentation, and insightful feedback.

Expanded Data Source Support

Over the course of this year, we added compatibility with a wide range of data sources, including BigQuery, DuckDB, PostgreSQL, JSON, Parquet, CSV, MySQL, MSSQL, Trino, and ClickHouse, making Wren AI more accessible and versatile than ever.

The open-source community has helped Wren AI become one of the most widely used Text-to-SQL solutions in the field. Your collaborative spirit, bug reports, feature requests, and pull requests have been invaluable in shaping our roadmap.

Launching Wren AI Cloud

In October, we introduced our commercial offering, Wren AI Cloud, making it easier for enterprises and analytics teams to harness the power of Text-to-SQL without needing to manage their own infrastructure. Here’s a look at some of the features we rolled out:

Boilerplates for Streamlined Analysis from SaaS Tools

A standout addition this year has been Boilerplates, which are pre-defined templates that streamline your data analysis process. Boilerplates have proven incredibly useful for anyone looking to get up and running with Wren AI quickly — especially when working with popular SaaS tools like HubSpot and Google Analytics 4. We’ll soon expand support to include WooCommerce, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, Stripe, and more so your data workflows can be even more seamless.

AI-Powered Insights & Visuals

We listened to your requests for more intuitive data interpretation. In response, we introduced AI-driven charting and visualization features — helping you transform raw data into clear, actionable charts with just a few clicks or simple prompts.

Project & User Management

Managing multiple data projects across various teams can be challenging. That’s why we introduced Project Management and User Management features in Wren AI Cloud, giving you better control and visibility over who is working on what and how they’re interacting with sensitive data.

Advanced Data Controls for Teams and Companies

Security and compliance go hand in hand with accessibility. We rolled out Advanced Data Controls to help organizations govern data more effectively. Role-based permissions, audit logs, and dataset-level access controls are just a few ways we’re enabling teams and companies to stay both efficient and compliant.

Looking Ahead to 2025

We’re entering the new year with ambitious goals. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s on our roadmap:

Automation

We plan to integrate automation tools to streamline data workflows and analysis. This will allow users to automate repetitive tasks, connect Wren AI with hundreds of other apps, and build custom workflows without writing code.

Advanced Data Analytics via AI

Our team will continue to refine our AI models to handle more complex queries, deeper insights, and richer data relationships — turning raw data into meaningful conclusions.

Autonomous Actions

Looking beyond insights, we want Wren AI to act on those insights, enabling automated decision-making and self-improving pipelines based on the information the AI uncovers.

Dashboards & Reporting

One of our most requested features for 2025 is Custom Dashboards and Reporting. We’re building tools that will allow companies to save and organize AI-generated visuals directly into customizable dashboards for easy reference and easily share dashboards across teams or export them for presentations and deeper analysis.

This feature will empower businesses to seamlessly integrate AI insights into their reporting workflows, ensuring data-driven decisions are always at their fingertips.
